FORWARDS coach Alan Paver feels the Cornish Pirates have not shown “anywhere near” their full capability yet this season.

Speaking to the Packet after the side’s tense 29-19 win over Moseley on Sunday in the Greene King IPA Championship, the 36-year-old said the team are still improving and believes they will get better as the season progresses.

Paver said: “We know who we are and where we are as a club.

“But we are always improving and we’ve got the more experienced guys giving the squad some infrastructure and spine with the younger guys coming through nicely.

“I think we’ll be a momentum side and as the seasons goes on we’ll only improve further.”

Sunday’s game saw Paver make his first appearance for the Pirates since February as he was called into the front row.

With both his player and coaching hat on, Paver had mixed feelings about the overall performance of the side, but added there is plenty of promise to take out of the result.

“We went out with bags of energy and some our inaccuracies were masked by that,” he said.

“As we lost a grip of the game, I got frustrated and sometimes when you’re on the field you don’t understand why it happens, but we picked ourselves up and found our direction again at the end.

“If you’re team doesn’t have a bit of grit in those situations, you’ve lost the game, but when your team has that determination like we showed at the end, it gives you a good foundation to work on.”
