WHEN Mark Snowdon picked his tennis racket at the age of 47 after 14 years away from the sport – he was not sure how much success would come his way.

Jump forward to the present day though and the player has brought home three Falmouth Tennis Club Singles’ titles, including winning the most recent tournament.

His latest title came after defeating his men’s doubles partner Marcus Hold in the final, pulling back from 4-1 down in the first set to win 6-4 6-3 at the club in Western Terrace.

On top of his singles triumphs, Snowdon has also added two victories with Hold in the doubles and in the mixed doubles with Suzie Scorse.

He was unable to add to win the doubles again this year despite making both finals again.

But Snowdon, who lives in Penryn, said he was thrilled to retain the singles crown.

Snowdon said: “Winning the singles for a third year in a row was fantastic, I’m over the moon.

“I was a reasonable player when I was younger, giving county standard players a good game, but had to pack it up when I was 33 because of a shoulder injury.

“Then about three years ago I decided to give it another go and joined up at Falmouth, although I never really anticipated winning trophies.

“Since then it has all just clicked really well and to be winning titles like I have at the age of 50 is great.”

Age has been no barrier for Snowdon since his return to tennis and the father-of-two said he has no intentions of hanging up his racket anytime soon.

“I’m really enjoying playing and I want to carry on for as long as I possibly can,” he said.

“Along with that, I want to keep going for the trophies and want to defend the singles title at Falmouth.”
