A BRILLIANT second half effort by Penryn proved to be not enough in their derby clash with Truro at the Memorial Ground.

Tries from Chris Instance, Kirk Oldfield and Ben Jordan saw Borough fight back from an 18-0 half time deficit to get within a single point of their local rivals.

But Jake Seviour could not complete a fantastic finish for the hosts as his conversion attempt with the last kick of the match went wide.

It is the third game this season for Penryn which has seen the sides separated by just one point, although their 22-21 defeat at Torquay defeat last week will be replayed.

The highly anticipated match proved to be one which the cliche "a game of two halves" was suitable.

Truro controlled the first 40 minutes with plenty of possession in Borough's 22 with two tries and two penalties giving them an 18 point lead.

Borough had shown good moments in the first period, but were ultimately left frustrated as opportunities went squandered anytime they reached Truro's final 22.

Seviour missed a penalty early in the second half, but they managed to turn things around after the break, taking particular advantage of two periods where their hosts had players in the sin bin.

This included in the final minute when Jordan went over moments after Chris Gilbert had been shown yellow for a high challenge on Tom Hoban.

However, it would prove to be a frustrating day in the end for Borough as Seviour sent his kick across the face of the uprights, meaning they ended up having to settle for a losing bonus point.
