A MINI rutt was ended by Redruth on Saturday as they eased to a 38-15 victory over Canterbury at the Rec.

Having lost their last three matches in the National League Two South, it was vital for the Reds to come out of the match with the Kent side with a full set of points.

This was duly supplied by them thanks to six tries being run in by Sam Parsons, Murray Westren, Kyle Marriott, Matt Bowden, Damien Cook and Ben Priddey.

Canterbury, who are sitting one place above last in the table, did not show sort of tiredness which you might expect from having to travel long distances for a game as they kept Redruth pinned back in their own half early on.

However it was the hosts who took the lead after ten minutes when a burst from Jack Kessell set up Parsons to score, with Ashley Hosking adding the conversion.

They doubled their tally on the half-hour mark when a catch-and-drive move ended successfully with Westren diving in under the posts before the Reds added a third try before the half ended with Marriott finishing off a well worked play.

In between the second and third tries, Guy Hilton knocked home a penalty to see the visitors keep within three scores of the hosts.

But Redruth stretched their lead out again not long into the second half with Bowden grabbing the fourth try, earning his side a bonus point in the process.

Westren converted having taken over kicking duties from Hosking who had made way for Greg Goodfellow, who soon got in on the act to set up Cook for his try after a dummy left the field wide open for the lock.

With another two points added it opened the gap to 30 points, but Canterbury fought their way over the line for the first time through substitute Aiden Moss.

Priddey ended the scoring for Redruth when another catch-and-drive move brought another five points to the home side.

Charlie Kingsman added another try to Canterbury late on, but it was not enough to spoil Redruth’s party.

Proceedings are set to get tougher on Saturday as the Reds travel to second placed Taunton Titans.
