WENDRON United worked hard on Saturday to get themselves an expected three points over bottom of the table Troon.

A brace from Luke Wort along with strikes from Matt Rose, Jason Roberts, Justin Searle, Brett Andrew and Mike Brewer gave Dron a 7-1 win which sees them move from sixth to fifth in the Jolly’s Combination League.

With five men at the back and just one striker, Troon did prove to be a test to break down.

However, Dron managed to work their way round the defence on multiple occasions much to the delight of their manager Paul Murray.

He feels it was an important win to get.

Murray said: “It was a good result against unfortunately a team who have been struggling this season.

“Sometimes it is difficult to play against sides like that because they can be defensive and Troon showed a lot of will and never gave up.

“These are the types of games which you need to make sure you win and that is all Saturday was about.

“To score seven goals is positive to and is a boost for the goal difference, which can be worth an extra point at the end of the season.”

Wort opened the scoring with a header before Rose doubled the lead shortly afterwards.

It was made 3-0 before half time when Brewer curled a free kick into the net.

Searle banged in the fourth which was followed up by a second from Wort.

Andrew got the sixth before Troon breached Dron’s defence as an error at the back let Daniel Oliver in to slot home a shot.

The six goal margin was restored before the final whistle as Roberts run into the box and beat the goalkeeper.

Redruth United will be Dron’s next opponents in what is building up to be an exciting clash with both teams in the top five.

Extra spice has been added to the fixture after Dron cruised to a 4-1 win over the Reds in the Cornwall Senior Cup on October 5.

With this in mind, Murray said it will be a tough game at Clijah Croft.

“It will be a lot different against Redruth,” he said.

“It is not going to be easy and they will want to put one over on us after we knocked them out of the cup the other week.

“I always want to win, but if we came away from there with a point, I’ll be happy.”
