HAVING lost their four previous league games, Porthleven came away from Millbrook with a vital win on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Jordan Annear alongside a strike from Freddie Williams proved to be enough for the Fishermen in the South West Peninsula League West match.

Coming up against a team which has already conceded 16 goals in one game with Helston Athletic and ten in another against Bude Town, Port could have got into double figures themselves.

But a brilliant display between the sticks by Jack Dixon for the hosts coupled with a lack of clinical finishing meant Port could add a third drubbing to the Magpies, who ended the game with ten men.

His first fine save came early on as Tom Annear ran down the wing before sending a ball to Sam Kay, who saw his effort tipped over the bar.

Dan Greet then had a chance to open the scoring but once again Dixon, who has been sidelined for three weeks, showed his prowess again to push the shot away for a corner.

On the half hour mark there was not much the goalkeeper could do to prevent Annear opening his account for the day after he got on the end of a ball squared into the box by Kay.

Before the half ended Dixon did make another quality stop as he won a one-on-one battle with the opening goalscorer.

Millbrook still had a chance of getting from the game, but things took a turn for the worst ten minutes after the break as their skipper Patrick Kendall received his marching orders after picking up two bookings.

But despite having a numerical advantage, Port could not capitalise immediately and with 20 minutes to go the home side equalised when Zak Pearce nodded home.

The Fishermen sorted themselves out though and six minutes later regained their lead when Williams made it to a rebound and drove home from 14 yards.

This seemed to deflate Millbrook and in the 79th minute Annear added his second goal of the day.

The 18-year-old completed his hat-trick five minutes from time and 60 seconds later Port thought they had made it 5-1, only see it chalked off for offside.

The decision caused some discussion as Williams, who had put the ball into the net, had been behind the ball when it passed to him.

It did not ruin the party too much for Port though, who have a difficult match away at Godolphin Atlantic in the Walter C Parson Cup on Saturday.
