SLENDER margins will disappear soon for Penryn as they continue to develop their rugby during the season.

Head coach Russell Lawrance and club captain George Jones believe Borough will soon be putting full performances in for 80 minutes after three straight games ending with one point separating the sides.

On one occasion Borough came out on top beating Teignmouth 23-22.

In the other matches they have come out losing, with Truro winning 18-17 on Saturday and Torquay 22-21, although this game will now be replayed.

Jones feels the reason behind the close games is because Penryn are not quite getting things together for a whole match, but thinks it will not be long before they do.

He said: “It can be a bit frustrating when you have to rely on a late second half performance, but the way we are trying to play is still developing so it will click soon.

“Our pack has been on top in most games so far and it is improving week on week and there’s not many packs which are living up to us, even those with more experienced players.

“I think we under performed in the first half with Truro, but in the second half we responded better and dominated and the win was there for us.”

Lawrance echoed these thoughts after the defeat by their local rivals.

He said the way the side are playing rugby is a “work in progress”.

“I was disappointed to be on the wrong side of the result,” Lawrance said.

“But I am delighted with the long term direction and overall performance of the lads.

“We can be a bit naive and not as streetwise as other sides at times and this has given us mountains to climb already during the season.

“But some of the rugby we have been playing has been great and whenever I have asked for something extra from the lads they have responded.”
