ED Timmons has urged Falmouth Town fans to “get off players’ backs” in order for the club to improve.

The right back spoke to the Packet after making the switch from the Ambers to South West Peninsula League West side Illogan RBL.

His move came just hours before John Dent resigned from the Bickland Park hot seat with the former Penzance and Porthleven boss slamming how the club is run and also abusive supporters.

Dent’s comments regarding the fans were backed up by Timmons.

He said: “I think all players have experienced verbal abuse at some point and playing out wide you do hear it a bit more as you’re closer to the stands.

“I have seen players at Falmouth have a proper ding dong with fans during games and it isn’t needed as the players are trying their hardest.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion because fans pay their money, probably too much.

“But if they want to see Falmouth doing well, then they probably shouldn’t get on the players’ backs.”

Timmons said his main reason for joining RBL was down to personal reasons and believing the club had lost direction.

“I was getting frustrated at Falmouth,” he said.

“I don’t think the club was going in the right direction and it is quite nice to be at a club like Illogan where there is hunger.

“Falmouth are a great club with a great history and they should be up there competing for title available in the county.

“It is not going to be easy because they don’t have budget of other teams in their league who can pay guys triple figures to play, but they can make up for that with their work-rate and desire and that is what the new manager needs to find in them.”
