NEW Falmouth Golf Club captain Barry Lawrence said he wants his tenure to be remembered as enjoyable and with an injection of youth to the course.

The 62-year-old took over the position from Lucien Trathen earlier this month having spent the previous 12 months as vice captain.

After joining in 1989, Lawrence was treasurer for 15 years and said it was great to be given the chance to lead the club.

Lawrence said: “It really is a great honour to be asked to captain the club.

“I have been here for 25 years now and it feels like I have been shown appreciation and respected highly enough to take the role.

“A year in a club like Falmouth with its history is not that long really and all I want to do is see people having a good time on the course and in the clubhouse.

“I’d also like to try and increase the number of young players playing here and learning the sport.”

He went onto say he is looking forward to his year in charge, although he knows it will be a very busy 12 months for him.

“It does become sort of a full-time job,” Lawrence said.

“It is a bit daunting with all the responsibilities and event organising, but I am excited about it all.”
