ADRIAN Noott has stood down as Falmouth Cricket Club’s first team skipper – stating he felt it was “the right time to go”.

After three years in the role, the 34-year-old has confirmed he has decided to step aside from the post ahead of the 2015 season.

He cited work commitments and not being in a position to provide the focus and energy for what the role requires as the main reasons behind the decision.

A replacement has not been confirmed yet by the club.

Noott said: “I have had a good three years as captain with lots of success.

“But looking forward to the next challenge of getting the team back up to the top of the league again, it is something which will need a lot of energy and drive from the captain.

“I’m not saying I do not have that energy and drive, but my business is my main focus so I cannot give as much commitment to do the captaincy job anymore.

“It feels like the right time to step down and allow another player to step up.”

Despite standing down as captain, Noott said he would still be staying at the club based in Trescobeas Road.

“I am still as ambitious as I ever was,” he said.

“I want to stay part of the team and I want to be a Premier League winner, I don’t play cricket just for the hell of it.”

During Noott’s time as skipper, Falmouth won silverware in 2013 by claiming the Vinter Cup title, a crown which they nearly defended last season only for St Just to beat them in the final.

This success was among his own personal proudest moments in the role, but the right handed batsman said there were plenty of other moments he enjoyed.

Noott said: “Winning silverware was obviously a great moment.

“But when I took over, we had just finished ninth in the league which was disappointing.

“We went out and brought in new players and we went from a struggling club to being the second best in the county in all formats.

“We lost a few players last season and that probably did dent our momentum a bit.

“But to take the club from being not that competitive to being within one game of being champions not long after is something I’m very proud of.”
