QUESTIONABLE refereeing decisions did Porthleven out of a result at Illogan RBL on Saturday.

The Fishermen felt aggrieved with the performance from Peter Grenfell during their 3-2 defeat in the South West Peninsula League West clash.

A stamp on goalkeeper Benji Bryant in the build-up to RBL's first goal and a penalty decision against Steve Parker-Billings were not spotted by the referee, leaving a bitter taste in the visitors' mouths.

Just like in recent weeks Port will also be frustrated with a number of missed chances they had which could have made the result very different.

Illogan had the first opportunity to score in the opening minutes when Tim Nixon's free kick hit the crossbar.

Jamie Greet then got in on goal after getting onto the end of Tom Annear's free kick, but his effort went wide.

Jordan Annear did give Port the lead after 12 minutes when he shrugged off the challenge of Tom Smith before running in and scoring for lovely solo effort goal.

Liam Hunter then had a big penalty appeal turned down by Grenfell.

The Fishermen's left back had run into the box and got the ball past goalkeeper Parker-Billings, but found his right ankle being pulled back.

This was missed by the official though who awarded no penalty.

RBL's equaliser provided the first controversial decision though as Bryant made a good double save from Tim Nixon in the six yard box in the 40th minute.

He then tried to smother the ball as it rolled into a congested penalty area, but found himself trod on.

Simon Ellis then took the opportunity to put the ball into an unguarded net with Bryant still on the ground in agony.

RBL went in front with five minutes left as Smith headed the ball into net after Ellis sent in a good free kick.

Luke Johnson made it 3-1 three minutes later when he directed a shot across Bryant.

It was not over for Port though as they were given a bit of hope when Sam Kay sent a spectacular strike from 35 yards out flying into the top corner of the goal.

But there was not enough time for Port to find an equaliser and head into their match with bottom place Perranporth on Saturday having lost their last three games.
