CORNISH Pirates captain Chris Morgan said he and the team were “disappointed” with their display on Sunday.

The side were outplayed at the Mennaye by Nottingham as they fell to a 28-13 loss in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Reflecting on the performance, the flanker admitted the team knew they had been poor.

Morgan said: “We had been in good form and it was a game we have been targeting and we had expectations that we could win.

“But for a large part of the match we really didn’t give a good account of ourselves and Nottingham were better than us.

“If we want to progress up the league then it teams like Nottingham who we have to target wins against, especially at home, so to lose in the manner we did was disappointing.”

He believes the little errors made by the Pirates were the main culmination to the result against good opponents.

Having got the match back to 13-13 at one point, Morgan added it was a shame they could not capitalise on their comeback.

“Things started poorly for us as had a couple of defensive lapses which let them in,” he said.

“But also I think there were too many times when we kicked possession away or made basic errors on the ball.

“We had given ourselves a chance of getting something out of the game by levelling it at 13 each, but to not kick on from there is very disappointing and probably the most frustrating thing of all for us as we had a chance.”

Rotherham Titans are the Pirates next opponents with the Cornishmen travelling up to Clifton Lane on Saturday.

The Yorkshire side, who reached the Championship’s play-offs last season, currently sit fourth in the table and Morgan said the Pirates know another tough battle awaits them.

He said: “Rotherham play a good style of rugby, but we have to bounce back at Rotherham and get back on track.”
