RUSSELL Lawrance said getting the first away win of the season was a good monkey to get off Penryn’s back.

Borough’s head coach praised the team for their all-round performance in the match which was replayed after Torquay Athletic were deemed to have not used a front row player available to them when they met on October 4.

The match reverted to uncontested scrums and the Tics went onto win by a single point.

With Saturday’s result being their first victory on the road this season, Lawrance the character displayed by his side was positive and will give them a boost.

Lawrance said: “It was a good moment for the team and it will give them renewed confidence moving ahead in the season.

“I think with the situation from the previous time we went to Torquay, I think it was important for the players to get the win against them.

“For me it was just another game of rugby, but what was important for me was how the team performed.

“I thought we showed great patience, discipline and control in a match were because of the history could have been easy to lose focus and it was the best team performance from us so far this season.”

He went onto praise the composure shown by Borough after an incident broke out during the first half involving players from both teams and home fans.

A delay was caused in the game while the matter was dealt with.

Lawrance said he was a bit surprised to see the scuffles break out, but he was pleased to see how his players reacted to it afterwards.

“I have seen lots of different incidents in my rugby career,” he said.

“This was unsavoury, but the key was how things like that affect both sides.

“I think it did have a slightly adverse affect on both teams, but I said to the lads they just needed to forget about it and move on from it, which they did, and I also thought the referee handled it well too.”
