CLEAR sunny skies welcomed Penryn to St Clements Hill on Sunday with conditions underfoot perfect for rugby. Penryn were looking to maintain their good form of late and were fully aware of the challenge posed by the host team. The end result was to go in favour of Penryn but despite a gritty display the result was always in danger. Penryn seemed to struggle with the slope of the pitch at first, but it still took Truro a while to open the scoring. For Penryn George Edson levelled soon after with a strong run to the line. Following another Truro score, Billy Jordon created space for Owen Richards to dot down in the corner to level the game once more. The desire to attack was with the visitors all match but they coughed up the ball too often in contact which allowed Truro to keep in the game.

Harry Julian stole a lot of ball back for Penryn and Charlie Thomas-Parsons put in a good shift after being unavailable of late. Two more George Edson scores put Penryn in front as he outpaced the home team and a second for Own Richards, gave Penryn some breathing space, but the final say came from Truro as Penryn held on to finish the game one score clear as the ref called time.

At the end of the day the team were happy and that is the most important thing. Although it was not a classy performance, it was at least a winning one and the boys felt they were at least rewarded for trying. Jude Marven again showed improvement which was a positive, with many players working hard but despite trying, things simply did not click for Penryn today.

This week’s Man of the Match was a difficult call as George Edson ran well and put in some good tackles, but the award went to Owen Richards for a good all round performance and effort.
