PENRYN put recent disappointments behind them on Saturday with a free flowing nine try display over struggling Tavistock at the Memorial Ground.

Having somewhat stuttered in recent weeks, Borough showed no mercy with a half century against the visitors who are bottom of the Western Counties West table.

There were some new faces in the Penryn ranks, including a first senior start for fly half James Salisbury in a youthful and exciting looking backline.

As always though, the pack laid strong foundations and Borough would have to show patience before they eventually eased home.

Tavistock showed excellent early commitment from both an attacking and defensive perspective, but it was only a matter of time until Penryn struck.

It was the right hand wing which caused the visitors problems all afternoon and following centre Ben Jordan’s strong break, Josh Chambers crowned his first start in nearly six weeks with an excellent try.

Callum Hinchley could not muster the conversion, but Penryn were off the mark.

Mitchell Vague was next on hand to add another unconverted score, for the first of his brace in a man of the match display, showing good pace to get to the line. Chambers finished in the corner nicely again after good work from the forwards to give Penryn a 15-0 lead.

The visitors mounted a strong attack to open the scoring for themselves on the day, but resolute Borough defence kept them at bay as the whistle signalled the interval.

Whilst the hosts were dominant, there was still plenty of room for improvement and in the second half they displayed their attacking prowess in spades with six further scores.

Despite an early yellow card to lock Chris Instance, for a dangerous tackle, the bonus point was in the bag early on in the half following a score for Tom Hoban, with Hinchley kicking his first conversion.

This seemed to ease the pressure Penryn had put on themselves as they shifted nicely through the gears.

Credit to Tavistock though, they registered a consolation try following good persistence, hacking through to touch down for a converted score.

Unfortunately for the visitors, this seemed only to kick start another wave of attack for the remaining 20 minutes.

A surging carry from skipper George Jones put Penryn on the front foot and as the defence struggled to retreat, flanker Hoban grabbed his second with Hinchley converting.

Hooker Harry James-Mills was popping up in attacks frequently and provided a glorious piece of handling to set up prop Matt Williams to coast over, before again being involved to create the chance for Chambers to complete his hat-trick.

With the score at 46-7 following another Hinchley conversion, there was still time for Penryn to hit 50.

Excellent link up play from the young half-backs and centre partnership put Jordan in plenty of space as he was rewarded for his assists with a try of his own.

Hinchley rounded off a fine attacking display with a conversion to make it 53-7 to the home side.

Another team sitting in the bottom three awaits Borough in their next match as they travel to Wellington on Saturday.
