IT was another pleasant winters day at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday as another bumper entry took to the course for the Christmas Draw Scramble, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Played in teams of four with a 9.30am shotgun start, the event proved a desperately close run thing as the top three teams all got superb nine under par rounds of gross 63.

The quartet of Ray Clark, John Bishop, Bruce Gilbert and David Hay were in perfect harmony as they won, albeit by the narrowest of margins, with a splendid net 56.4. Their front nine was gross 31 followed by a back nine 32.

Runners-up were Gerry Storey, Ian “Henry” Churcher, Bill Ward and Gill Norris just a fraction from the top prize with a net 56.6 following grosses of 34 and 29 respectively.

Third were Tom Lentern, Pete Lewis, Scott Pedlar and Theresa Brierley with respective nines of 29 and 34 for a net 56.7.

Following the event was a Christmas Draw with a difference as club vice-captain Pete Brierley orchestrated the prize giving alongside his wife Theresa and daughter Lucy Draycott with a Christmas pantomime which was well received.

This Sunday is the eagerly anticipated Turkey Trot with a 9.30am shotgun start followed by the top quality “cut and carve” provided by stewardess Donna Craig and her excellent team followed by the legendary christmas carols.
