WAYNE Hughes has said he wants to make sure the young players in his Falmouth Town squad have the right attitude towards the game.

Since taking over the Bickland Park hot-seat on a permanent basis in November, Hughes has brought in a number of new recruits to the Ambers’ first team squad.

The latest signing for Town due to be confirmed this week is full-back Scott Kellow, who left the club last summer to join Penzance.

It is also expected his older brother Richard will to return to the South West Peninsula League Premier side.

Speaking to the Packet, Hughes said he is trying to ensure the signings know the challenge they will be entering with Town.

Hughes said: “I’ve been talking to all the guys coming to the club either for the first time or who are returning to us.

“What I want to make sure of is that the younger lads in particular have the right attitude on and off the pitch.

“When you have clubs like St Austell and Bodmin Town paying big money to players, there are a lot of guys who think it is like that for everyone in the league.

“But the reality is that it isn’t, so the players who come here need to know that and be ready to come here and battle.

“If they do that and impress, like Harry Evans did, then they could find themselves earning good money somewhere, but they have to put the graft in.”

Recruits to the side since Hughes took charge have included Nick Hurst from Wadebridge while Glen Squires and Tom Whipp have both returned to the club after departing over the summer.

A number of players including Sam Bromley and Dan Evans have also been given their chance in the first team squad after impressing with the reserves.

Hughes said he has been pleased with the input from the younger guys who have been brought in.

He added having more experience men like Squires and Whipp back in the squad will help their development.

“We have given a chance to a few younger members of the squad and I have been happy with how they’ve done,” Hughes said.

“Hopefully they can keep building on their progress and getting players like Tom and Glen to return will be good for them as well because they can pass on their knowledge.”

On Saturday, the Ambers host Cullompton Rangers in the league.

When the sides met earlier in the season, Rangers defeated Town 5-2.

Kick-off for the match is 3pm.
