REBUILDING Falmouth Town into a title challenging squad will be done in piece by piece according to the club’s assistant manager.

Gary Pascoe told the Packet the playing and coaching personnel at Bickland Park know creating a team which can challenge in the top half of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division will not happen overnight.

Since Wayne Hughes became first team manager after John Dent’s resignation in October, a number of signings have been made as he looks to make improvements to the side.

With more recruits set to be brought in before the season finishes, Pascoe said Ambers fans will probably need to await until the next campaign to see the team make leaps up the table.

Pascoe said: “We are rebuilding here, but we are not going to get things right in one season.

“What we have to do is improve by little percentages every week and keep bringing in players who can move the club forward.

“The important thing is we know where we need to improve, which includes how we play in the final third.

“It is about fine tuning things and getting the lads doing the right things there and across the pitch.”

Among the players brought in since Hughes took over is Tom Whipp, who rejoined Town in December after departing the club in the summer.

On Saturday, the former Ambers captain impressed with his display in central defence alongside the side’s incumbent skipper Joe Cooper.

Pascoe said having a player like Whipp back at Bickland Park is a massive boost.

“He is great to have in the dressing room,” Pascoe said.

“Tom is good on the ball and comfortable at the back, which he showed on Saturday.

“He has played here before with Joe so they know each other well and he brings that experience into a squad full of younger guys, which they can learn from.”

Exmouth Town, currently fifth in the league, are next up for the Ambers.
