DESPITE the inclement weather throughout the week, Falmouth Golf course was just playable for the four ball Better-ball Stableford Winter League on Saturday, writes Keith Rashleigh.
Thanks must go to the considerable efforts of the green keepers.
Certainly the scores did not suffer with Steve Thomas, pictured below, and Andy “J” Anderson, carding a superb 47 points to take first prize from the equally impressive Gary Wall and Roger Fairburn on countback as the drama unfolded on the respective back nines.
The winning duo had birdies at the 13th and 14th holes while Wall and Fairburn birdied the 12th, 14th and 18th holes.
But a bogey at the 15th proved costly for them as they lost by one point on a back six countback having returned 25 points apiece over the respective back nines.
Third were Mark Trewin and Tony Drew, who scored 22 and 24 points, on countback from Marek Churcher and Bobby Richardson.
This Saturday is the Monthly Stableford in conjunction with the Junior Monthly Stableford.
