A YOUTH football team are looking to keep growing just over a year after setting themselves up.

Ruan Rascals formed in November 2013 and has gone from coaching six children to regularly having 16 or more players turn up for training sessions.

They have already started playing games with and hosted their own tournament last August.

Results have also been improving from their first friendly were they lost 15-1 against Culdrose to getting wins.

This includes getting a victory against the side who thrashed them on their debut.

The club were set up by Tony and Gemma Bennett and Paul Williams as a way of giving their own children and others living in the village a chance to play the sport.

Mr Bennett explained: “Both myself and Paul have sons that love football and being that they were seven at the time, we thought maybe we could start something off and see what comes of it.

“As the nearest football club was in Culdrose, we felt we could do something for our children and the local community.

“The support of the local community has been brilliant and Ruan Rascals have so far had a positive benefit for all involved, “We hope to see the club grow and would welcome anyone that would perhaps consider sponsoring us and all being well we hope to have a new football pavillion in place in the not too distant future.”

Training takes place at the Ruan Minor Recreation Ground from 10am to 12.30am every Sunday and is open for any child aged between dour and 11-years-old.

A player-of-the-week is picked at each session, who receives a trophy and certificate, and cakes are baked by some of the mothers for the players to enjoy afterwards.
