KAYNE Trevaskis believes Falmouth Town should be winning more games than they are.

The striker was on target for the Ambers in Saturday’s victory at Stoke Gabriel, which saw Town overturn an early deficit to win 2-1 in the South West Peninsula League Premier.

Their comeback was completed by Trevaskis and Sam Bromley, who both scored in the second half after Ben Brown had given the hosts a third minute lead.

With three of their next five league games against lower half teams, Trevaskis said Town have a great opportunity to push themselves up the table.

Trevaskis said: “It was good to get a win at Stoke Gabriel and to be honest, we should be winning more games.

“We are improving game-by-game and it is down to the players on the day to play well and get the results we need.

“Looking at our next few games, there are teams like Newquay and Bovey Tracey who we know we can beat and we should be looking to pick up a few points.”

The Ambers travelled to Devon without first team regulars Tom Whipp, Ross Pope and Josh Sims, with a debut handed to left-back Connor Symons.

A terrible start was made by Town at the GJ Churchward Memorial Ground and with three minutes gone, Brown put the hosts in front after Dave Worthington pulled the ball back to him.

The visitors struggled throughout the half and could have gone 2-0 down when Brown saw his shot crash off the crossbar after 21 minutes.

Town made it to the break still just one down and came back out looking more focused.

They started playing well and eight minutes after the break, Trevaskis was put in one-on-one with Scott Bellamy and the striker won the battle.

Dan Evans and Bromley were both brought off the bench on the hour mark and it was the latter who hit a fine shot from 20 yards out to secure the victory.

Town’s manager Wayne Hughes was happy with the second half performance of his side, saying the first 45 minutes was the worst they have played since he took over.

“It looked like most of the guys were still on the minibus for the first 20 minutes because we never really got started,” he said.

“I had a few quiet words with them at half time and they sorted things out in the second half and to get a win is important, especially against a side like Stoke Gabriel who are in a similar league position to us.

“With the squad we had as well, it shows what good attitudes we have around the team at the moment.”
