MIDFIELDER Rob Hosking has signed for Porthleven to have “one last crack” at Peninsula League football.

The 28-year-old joined the Gala Parc outfit on Saturday from Jolly’s Combination League side Redruth United and is hoping to shake off a foot injury by the end of February so he can make his debut.

He has previously played in the West Division for Penryn Athletic, but got in contact with Port’s manager Dennis Annear at the start of the month to fulfil a desire to play more games at a higher level.

Hosking, who has also played for Falmouth Town and Perranporth in the past, said: “I broke a metatarsal in November and it has given me a bit of thinking time about my playing career.

“I thought I’m not getting any younger and I would like to give it another go, give 100 per cent and see where it takes me.

“After deciding this is what I wanted to do, I got in touch with Dennis to offer my services and he got back to me saying yes, let’s go.”

Looking ahead to training and playing with the Fishermen, Hosking told the Packet he is hoping to past on some of his experience to them.

“Even though I’m only 28, I’m a bit older than most of the team,” he said.

“There is a fantastic young squad at Porthleven and Dennis has done a fantastic job in developing them.

“Every day is a school day and if I can pass on some of my knowledge to the guys then that’ll be great.”

Port’s manager Annear said he delighted to add Hosking to the ranks.

Annear said: “Rob text me at the start of the month saying he wanted to play Peninsula League football.

“I have known him for a while and he is a real workhorse of a player and he will be a welcome addition to our squad.”
