TOM Hoban's try in injury time helped Penryn leave Truro with a point added to their tally in the Tribute Western Counties West league.

On a bitterly cold and blustery Saturday afternoon, which saw the players have to contend with hailstones at times, Craig Williams and Matt Bankhead went over for the hosts at St Clement's Hill to give the Chiefs four points.

Truro deserved their victory in the challenging conditions as they had the majority of possession in both halves in testing conditions for any rugby match to be played in.

The opening ten minutes saw the ball almost exclusively in Borough's half and after nine minutes a loose pass from Penryn after a scrum was gobbled up by Williams before his offload to Bankhead saw the winger fly into the goal area.

Williams got the conversion kick right, but his attempt showed the difficulty of the conditions as the ball barely made it over the crossbar from the left hand touchline.

With rain and hail falling too, the ball was a slippery customer which stifled the game with a number of knock-ons cropping in.

Borough managed to build up some pressure in the opposing half and earned a penalty on the half hour mark after Truro came in at the side of a maul, which James Salisbury kicked easily between the posts from in front of goal.

In the second half, Cross had the opportunity to extend Truro's lead by three points, only to see the wind take hold of his penalty and blow the ball wide from close range.

Truro were well on top though and it only seemed a matter of time before the lead was extended.

It duly was increased in the 62nd minute when Williams got over after a sustained series of barges forward by the home pack kepts Penryn working hard before the outside centre spotted a small gap to run in.

His conversion was missed in comical fashion as he accidentally booted the hand of team-mate Ben Teasdale, who was helping keep the ball on the kicking tee, and

At 12-3, the visitors knew a score would give them a losing bonus point and after having been on the back foot and their set pieces not working out, Penryn did start to build some pressure towards the end of the second half.

Another penalty was missed by Williams as the wind blew the ball wide again and as the clock ticked into stoppage time, full-back Jake Seviour was sin-binned for the hosts after a high tackle.

This numerical advantage was picked up on by Borough who bulldozed their way to within inches of the try-line before openside flanker finished the move off for an unconverted try.
