IN very testing and wet conditions, Penryn Under 13s progressed to the Cornwall Cup semi finals courtesy of a 38-7 win at Saltash.

With heavy rain falling on a soggy pitch, Borough kicked off and opened the scoring after two minutes as Dan Price finished off a move which saw the ball moved quickly through the backs.

Saltash regained composure and controlled possession for a healthy ten minute spell, but found themselves up against a tough tackling Penryn side with scrum-half Jack Valentine and flanker Jonah Frost standing out.

They were able to register a score though as a good kick into the visitor’s territory led to a mishandle, letting the hosts in for a try.

Handling errors were coming thick and fast for both sides, but Penryn managed to do enough for two more tries before half time from Sam Price and Sam Ahearne.

Not long after the break, Borough’s second try scorer doubled his own tally for the day as he finished a powerful move from the kick-off.

He completed a hat-trick after some fine work by the boot of fly-half Sam Hammersley kept Saltash pinned back in their own half before Ahearne added his second try of the day.

With the conditions getting worse and the score so one-sided, it was agreed by the referee and coaches to bring the game to an early end, much to the relief of shivering players and supporters.

Penryn will face Truro in the next round.
