PORTHLEVEN’S pitch has been called the best in Cornwall for 2015.

The county’s FA has named the turf at Gala Parc as the finest across the Duchy and it will now be entered into the national final.

Extensive work is done on the ground by volunteers Cosy Powell and Ian Lewis and Port’s secretary Vidal James praised the job they do.

James said: “I am quite chuffed for Cosy and Ian and I know the whole club is very proud of this achievement.

“They took over from Jack Prowse a few years ago after he sadly passed away and I know he would be so proud to see the work they have done.

“The guys look after the pitch like it is a baby and we get a lot of teams coming up to us after matches saying what a beautiful pitch it is to play on.”

A presentation will be done to the groundsmen by Cornwall FA chiefs ahead of their match with Liskeard Athletic on April 11.
