DENNIS Annear admitted he will miss the derby day buzz when he steps away from the dug-out in May.

Friday’s clash between Porthleven and Helston Athletic will be the last for the Fishermen’s boss before he hands the reins over to Phil Kellow.

Talking to the Packet, Annear who decided to step down as Port’s manager due to his work commitments outside of football admitted he will miss being involved in derbies.

“They are always the results you look out for and I’m sure I’ll still get itchy feet when they come around,” he said.

“Even now when I watch derbies, I wish I could turn the clocks back 15 years and put on my boots to play in them because they are great occasions.

“This is what makes football great with the derbies and big games always having a good atmosphere and the nerves you feel as a player, so I will miss it.”

With Athletic losing to Vospers Oak Villa on Saturday, Annear said he was expecting a bit of a backlash to come his side’s way, but added it is always a tough match.

Annear said: “There is so much to play for and Helston had a bit of a hiccup on Saturday so they will definitely be looking to amend that result.

“I know the loss will make them come out fighting, but I wouldn’t have expected anything different from them anyway.

“They’re first in the league for a reason and they are always difficult to play because they’re a good side.”

Port will be without top goalscorer Jordan Annear or regular right back Chris Wormington on Friday as the duo are still in the USA playing in the Dallas Cup with Truro College.

Available for the Fishermen again though will be Reece Allen, back from suspension, while Jed McCardie and Jack Coleman are back from university studies.
