DENNIS Annear’s last home game in charge of Porthleven ended with his side drawing 2-2 against Liskeard Athletic on Saturday.

The Fishermen welcomed back Jordan Annear and Chris Wormington to their squad for the South West Peninsula League West clash after the pair returned from the USA, where they had featured in the Dallas Cup for Truro College.

It proved to be a successful return as well with both players getting on the scoresheet for Port, with the latter securing a point for his side with a last minute equaliser.

Athletic had the first opportunity of the match as Jared Woods set up Jack Pugmore, but he sent his shot sailing over the crossbar.

Annear then went close to putting Port in front when his lob beat away goalkeeper Jamie Blatchford all ends up but bounced past the wrong side of the post.

He was to be denied again in similar fashion not long afterwards when another lobbed effort went over Blatchford, but this went out on the opposite side of the goal.

Then at the midway point of the half, Athletic broke the deadlock when a loose ball in the home penalty area was not cleared away by the defence allowing Chris Walker to hammer it past Benji Bryant.

Port could not equalise before half time but did nearly get a response in with the first move after the break when Tom Annear, playing upfront alongside his brother, forced a fine fingertip save from Blatchford.

The siblings combined in the 50th minute and this time managed to get the scoreboard ticking over as the younger of the brothers fired home, picking his spot in the bottom corner of the net.

Both sides pushed up looking for a winner and Athletic thought they had nabbed it with five minutes to go after a fumble by Bryant put the ball in Woods’ path, who made no mistake in front of goal.

But there was to be one last hurrah at Gala Parc for their outgoing manager though as a last minute strike from Wormington after a long throw saw the points split between the teams.

After the final whistle, a guard of honour was formed by both sets of players for Annear to depart the pitch for the last time to rapturous applause.
