AN ONLINE food shop has started hiring an all-weather football pitch at Helston Sports College for six-a-side games.

Food Box Farm, based at Chyvarloe Farm in Loe Bar, have use of the facilities between 8 and 9pm every Thursday and anyone interested in playing is welcome to attend.

Since beginning the evenings in February, a regular group of 20 people turn up and the company are looking to start up ladies nights with games against other businesses.

Originally the company had wanted to sponsor a football team before deciding to use their funds to hire the pitch.

Paul Parfitt, co-owner of the firm, said: “At the same time we started looking around for teams, I was thinking that I wanted to start playing football again having not played for eight years and having had trials with several Football League and non-league teams as a teenager.

“It was from this that we decided instead of sponsoring a team to use the funds to hire the outside pitch at Helston Sports Centre and see if any of our customers or Facebook friends would be interested in playing.

“We are also always looking for new players. It is free and although we are competitive, we play in the right spirit and it is about getting healthy and playing football for the right reasons.”
