CAMBORNE lifted the Colts Cup for the first time since the 1993/94, running in a total of six tries to defeat holders Saltash in a highly entertaining final played under the Wadebridge floodlights on Friday evening.
The Cherry and Whites came out with all guns blazing to all but wrap up the victory in the first half by racking up 24 unanswered points in as many minutes.
Soon on the attack with lock Rob Grigg making some big charges, Camborne opened their account on five minutes when outstanding number eight James Rowe drove over for Kieran Whitfeld to convert.
Soon after a slick handling move created space for wing Whitfeld to cross wide on the left for 12-0.
Midway through the half, another crisp bout of handling saw full-back Eddie Coombs come up into the line to dot down. Almost immediately impressive centre Toby Robinson followed up his own hack ahead to win the race for the touchdown and Whitfeld’s excellent conversion from a wide angle made it 24-0.
After the break, Saltash came back with great spirit to dominate the third quarter eventually getting on the scoreboard through number eight Matt Orean’s try improved by fly-half Harrison Reburn.
Camborne though quickly responded with an excellent second try at the corner flag by the strong running Whitfeld for 29-7.
Centre Kieran Westlake then powered over to increase Camborne’s advantage before Saltash bagged a deserved second try through prop Alistair Ogilvie.
