RESPRESENTATIVE youth football will now be played by Cornwall's Under 18s next season after sponsorship was agreed.

On May 15, the county's FA announced they were pulling the side out of the 2015/16 out of the South & West Counties Championship and FA County Youth Cup due to a reduction in grant funding, totalling £19,000.

However, just days after the news broke, Truro City and Helical Retail got in touch with the association to offer their help.

A deal has now been brokered which will see the U18s able to compete next season with City supplying their team coach for travel and the retailers sponsoring the side.

Bosses at the Cornwall FA have thanked both parties for their generous offers.

Chief executive Dawn Aberdeen said: "We didn't make the initial decision to withdraw the team lightly, however faced with significant cuts to our budget we had to look at all areas of the business to make savings.

"However on this occasion the support from Truro City and Helical Retail has allowed us to move forward with an U18 side for 2015/16 which we are all thrilled about.

"We will still have to review the situation again in 12 months time."
