FALMOUTH suffered a three wicket home defeat to Camborne on Saturday, on a day when the top four teams in the Jolly’s Drinks ECB Premier League all lost.

It all looked good for Falmouth early on despite being put in. Callum Whittaker (31) and Sean Hooper added 75 for the first wicket before Whittaker was caught off Louis Delport. Antony Angove was

next to go for four. Christian Purchase (14) and Stefan Churcher (four) followed and when Hooper was run out for 44 the home side had slipped to 118 for five. Jordan Thomas was caught three runs later. However Craig Mouatt led a recovery and Guy Leathley made 15 in a seventh wicket stand of 36.

Mouatt went on to make a valuable 26 before being ninth out, shortly before the end. Delport and Chris Gibson took three wickets each in the 191 all out in the last over.

Furnival and Thomas got early strikes to reduce Camborne to 23 for two. Purchase then picked up the key wicket of Delport for eight.

Nick King made 20 but when Simon Hosking was run out for seven the visitors had lost their first five wickets for 98.

Things were going in Falmouth’s favour but an excellent 64 not out from skipper Liam Weeks was well supported by Jordan Harvey (28) in a crucial sixth wicket stand of 72.

Craig Johnson’s 18 not out secured the win with 28 balls to spare. Jordan Thomas again did well taking three for 32 and Christian Purchase took two for 41. The final score was Falmouth 191 Camborne 192-7.
