DAMIEN Cook has said he is "honoured" to have been handed the captain's armband at Redruth.

Earlier this week the National Two South outfit announced the lock would be replacing Chris Fuca as skipper during the 2015/16 season with Sam Parsons acting as vice-captain.

Cook has been at The Rec for 12 years, appearing more than 250 times for the side.

With Fuca still in the squad alongside Cornwall skipper Kyle Marriott and the experienced Rhodri McAtee, Cook said their knowledge will also be vital to helping his captaincy.

"It is an honour to lead the Redruth team and have your name etched in history on the captain’s board," he said.

"The fixture list for the coming season seems to get harder with more travelling for us and our band of loyal supporters.

"It is going to be an exciting season with a lot of new faces to blend in with the old, all fighting it out to wear the red jersey.

"I will turn to experienced players such as Chris Fuca, Kyle Marriott, Rhodri McAtee and vice captain Sam Parsons who will add their wealth of experience and knowledge to help me out."

Head coach Steve Larkins said he was delighted to see Cook come in as captain before adding praise towards Fuca, saying he has left "big boots to fill.

Larkins said: "Damien's experience, physical presence and commitment to the club over the last decade has been invaluable in terms of the Reds retaining their National League status.

"Chris has led from the front on and off the field and deserves a great deal of credit for keeping the squad together over the last three seasons."
