IT WAS a good day for St Gluvias on Saturday as they got their fourth win of the season, writes Michael Weeks.

Their latest success came at County Division One bottom side Menheniot Looe as they won by a big margin of 150 runs.

The Saints are 29 points clear of the relegation zone with nine games remaining.

After electing to bat, Richard Bannister, 29, got them off to a brisk start, hitting seven boundaries off just 18 balls.

Ryan Dallimore went without scoring, but Jake Preston made 30 before being third out at 93.

The innings was then built on a big fourth wicket stand of 181, with Matt Julian hitting five sixes and 15 fours in his 132 off 115 balls and was ably supported by skipper Jon Udy, who made 90 at a run a ball and four sixes and 11 fours.

Richard Kellow hit four maximums in a 19-ball 50 at the end as Jake Trethowan took three wickets.

Danny Lee made 55 for the home side on his seasonal debut.

Peter Nance got 42 and both Ross Ripley and Phil Shepley got 30, but Preston, three for 55, and Phil Bostock, three for 39, kept the home side in check.

Stithians lost their mid table Division Two clash at home to Camborne seconds by three wickets.

Kieren Webber made 51 and Tom Rodwell 25 in the home team’s 176-9, with Richard Ward and Allan Smith taking three wickets each.

Stithians looked in with a good chance when six wickets fell cheaply, but Nigel Endean, 23, supported Martin Woolcock, 52 not out, with Ward unbeaten on 16.

Ryan Burley took two for ten from seven overs and Hugh Williams two for 19.

Falmouth seconds' game was put back a day due to Praze Fair, but Sunday’s wet weather meant a cancellation with six points each.

Constantine are back in fourth spot in Division Three, 15 points behind leaders Goldsithney.

They lost at Perranarworthal by 49 runs after the home side made 232-7, with Adam Widdison making 67 and Brian Fisher 66 not out, while Charlie Campbell, Alan Dengler and Graham Griffiths took two wickets each.

Constantine made 183 with Kyle Winnan making 32 and Richard Waters 23, as Lee Coston, Scott Martin, Dave Taylor and Stuart Madeley all took two wickets.

Perranarworthal are at Leedstown on Saturday and Constantine are at Mount Ambrose, who were surprisingly beaten at Barripper on Saturday.

Wendron won well on Saturday at Leedstown by 185 runs thanks to a super effort from Ryan Mitchell.

After Antony Harris made 32, the 18-year-old hit 135 not out with three sixes and 11 fours off 113 balls as Wendron posted 237-7.

Then for good measure, opening the bowling, he wrecked the Leedstown top order taking five for 29 from seven overs as they were all out for 52. Dron are in second spot, ten points behind Goldsithney.

Surprisingly challengers Mount Ambrose lost to Barripper and Constantine to Perranarworthal.

On Saturday, Dron are at home to Mount Hawke and Leedstown host Perranarworthal.

Mullion’s bowlers were put to the sword at Trewirgie as Redruth seconds got the big total of 276-7.

Michael Cockings got the early wicket of Ben Page, but the top order of Arron Wallace, 50, Tom Stevens, 81, and George Bolland, 65, impressed for the home side.

Mullion were 162 all out with ten balls remaining as Dan Johnson made 39 and Jonty Wheatley and Mark Hall passed 20 while Ellis Whiteford picked up five wickets for the Reds.

Mullion are 11th and host Botallack & St Leven this weekend, who are only two places above them.

Porthleven had a big home win over bottom side Stithians seconds by 191 runs.

They made 256-7 with Paul Combellack getting 46 before Chris Cattlin, 71, and Neil Bartlett, 64 not out with five sixes and six fours from 39 balls, enjoyed themselves. Brad Bury completed the rout with incredible figures of six for seven from seven overs.

Port are sixth and take on Beacon seconds at the Bottoms on Saturday, who one place below them.

Helston seconds title hopes in division four suffered a blow with a 155 run defeat at St Buryan.

They remain in second spot but now trail Penzance seconds by 33 points.

Mullion seconds had an excellent run chase at home to Falmouth thirds in Division Five. Requiring 233 opener David Brown batted through to make 132.

Skipper Darren Turner was the only other to get double figures with 59 as victory came with two balls to spare.

The Mining Division Evening League semi-final dates have been announced this week.

They are Mt Hawke & Porthtowan v Constantine, at Perranporth on Wednesday, July 22 and Redruth v Helston, at Mt Ambrose on Thursday, July 30, with both games starting at 6pm.

Three Falmouth players – Guy Leathley, Kieran Rodda and Jordan Thomas – played for the Cornwall Development XI against the Devon Lions at Falmouth, this week.

The two-day game was unable to see any play on Sunday due to rain.

A 40-over game was played on Monday, Cornwall making 143-7.

After losing five wickets for 79, Leathley made 30 not out.

Chris Gibson had opened with 27 and Liam Lombard made 18.

Devon reached their target with four overs to spare as Harry Bolland took two for 18 from eight overs and Leathley two for 31.
