JASON Peters admitted he was "disappointed" with the nature of his departure from Falmouth Town - but is looking forward to his St Austell return.

The 26-year-old has rejoined the Lillywhites from the Ambers and is expected to feature between the sticks for the reigning South West Peninsula League Premier champions when the season starts with regular number one Jason Chapman injured.

His surprise move comes after rumours surfaced of a new goalkeeper being lined up at Bickland Park.

Speaking to the Packet, Peters explained he tried getting in touch with Wayne Hughes, who was manager of Town until Sunday when he resigned, to seek information on the situation, but received no reply.

Peters said: "I was on holiday recently and got a message saying Falmouth had signed a new goalkeeper, so I texted and called Wayne to ask for a bit of clarity on my position, but heard nothing.

"That kind of made my mind up for me really and it is a bit disappointing because I thought I deserved a bit more respect than that."

Chapman, another former Ambers star, will not feature at the start of the 2015/16 campaign due to injury, giving Peters who has kept clean sheets in two friendlies for St Austell a chance to make an impression.

It is expected Chapman, who conceded just 31 goals in the league last season, will be restored as the Lillywhites' number one after he rehabilitation is complete.

With an appreciation of this, Peters said he will consider his options again as he wants to be playing football.

"Jason Chapman is a brilliant goalkeeper and I have a lot of respect for him," Peters said.

"I've played here before and the squad is full of quality players, including Jason.

"Hopefully I can put together a few good performances so when Jason does return, I can get noticed by other clubs should I get less minutes on the pitch here.

"Mostly I want to enjoy my football, but I also want to play as much as possible and while competition for places is fine, being a benchwarmer is not for me."

When asked by the Packet about the transfer, Hughes said the situation had been "poorly handled".

Hughes said: "Jason was a bit mistreated.

"We had another goalkeeper come to train at the club while I was away in France recently and when I got home this had all kicked off.

"I tried to resolve it, but by that time it was too late."
