REACTING to their first league defeat of the 2015 season will be crucial for Helston according to their skipper.

Dan Jenkin's side were blown away by South African right-hander Murray Workman on Saturday as he chalked up 143 not out out of 241 runs for Callington in a top of the table clash.

His innings, which featured 13 fours and five sixes, helped the home side reach their target and bag a four wicket win, the first loss of Helston's County Division One campaign.

Despite seeing their 13 game unbeaten spell in the league ended, a 16 point advantage remains for Helston at the top of the table and Jenkin, who scored 72 for his side on Saturday, said they have to shake off the disappointment and move on.

Jenkin said: "Obviously the most important thing for us to do now is to get back to winning ways quickly.

"Overall we didn't actually do much wrong on Saturday, it was just one of those days where we came up against a guy who is the best batsman currently in Cornwall and he got the better of us.

"We didn't bowl badly at him, but he is so good and even though he was a bit scratchy early on, he didn't give away a single chance.

"I am delighted and proud to have got this far into the season unbeaten and we could probably afford to lose one more game, but that is not the attitude we'll have and we have to get the wins coming again."

With eight games remaining, all eyes are fixed on Helston and whether they can complete the task of winning promotion to the Cornwall Premier League for 2016.

However, Jenkin remained in a quietly confident mood moving into the business end of the season.

He said: "I don't think any of our guys are feeling the pressure of being on top.

"Everyone is really enjoying themselves and I think when you have that attitude, you don't really feel any pressure."

The 22-year-old also said there was still plenty of positives to take from their game at Callington.

"The way we batted was really good," he said.

"It was a decent wicket and to get 238 on it was great especially after being 69-3.

"It was good to get some runs myself and Ben Rule batted brilliantly again to get a 50 at an important time before Tommy [Sturgess] added a good score at the end.

"We probably didn't get the momentum we wanted to going into the second innings, but we bowled well and overall our performance was good."
