HUNDREDS of boats took to the seas and battled it out as the annual Falmouth Week racing series came round once more.

Over the course of seven days, sailing clubs from around the area welcomed crews to their venues and hosted races during the ever popular event.

Competition was split across three categories with skippers going for either the Bay Fleet, Carrick Fleet or Potted Shrimp Trophy titles.

The largest field of entrants came in the Carrick series with ten different classes being involved.

Just like the other competitions, racing began on Sunday at Helford River Sailing Club before visiting Mylor, Restronguet, Royal Cornwall, St Mawes and Flushing during the week.

There were plenty of exciting finishes with B Fleet seeing Rebecca and Rita going into the last race level on points.

Both pushed for victory, but it would end up being Phillip Slater, the skipper of Rebecca, who would end up happiest with a first place finish securing the title.

Spinaway, manned by Richard Brown, won in D, Andy Platt's Scallywag in G and Lez Beez Neez, skippered by Alan Street, comprehensively bagged victory in J after flawlessly winning all seven races.

Victory in E was secured by Bob Edward's Magpie, Doug Pattison led Pink Ffizz to the F title and no finishes outside the top two from Ivy, captained by Nigel Glanville, saw the boat top the V leaderboard.

John Howard was first or second in all but two races in the W fleet onboard Aeolus which helped him win overall while H was topped by Michael Wilson's boat Henrietta and K was won by John Bingham's Kyla.

In the Bay Fleet series, there were a few dominant performances across the seven groups racing including Crackerjack in F as Mike Webb five out of the six races.

Bridget Macklin also had a good week onboard Annika in K as she won eight times to top the leaderboard come Saturday.

This total was bettered by Antix, skippered by John Allen, who bagged nine race victories in Two Fleet and Three, Chris Jelliss won six times onboard A Little Trifle.

Tim and Nicky Octon led Njos to the One Fleet title, Richard Barker and James Griffin did enough in the week to discount two ninth places in the last races to claim the prize in E with Penfold and John Dalton's Moonshadow ended on top of R.

Pheobe, captained by David Miller, proved to be the best boat in the Potted Shrimp Trophy as beat off her three rivals, Dawn of Polruan, Yesella and Jet, to the crown.
