ANDREW Westgarth has challenged Falmouth Town to get the most out of their next three games to set up a platform for the rest of the season.

Starting on Saturday, the Ambers face games against Launceston, Camelford and Newquay inside the space of a week in the South West Peninsula League Premier.

All three are games which the club’s player-manager feels they should be winning, especially as the latter two sides finished either side of Town last season in the final league table.

Last night, after the Packet went to press, Saltash United visited Bickland Park, but the Ambers player-manager says his team should focus on beating teams around them to improve their chances of moving up the table.

Westgarth said: “It is important for us as a side to set ourselves small targets throughout the system.

“In the games against sides like Saltash and St Austell who are likely to be challenging for a top four place, if we can get any points at all against them then that is obviously a big bonus.

“But it is the games sides like Launceston, Camelford and Newquay who we feel on paper will be finishing in or around us at the end of the season that we have to be winning, so the next few games are really important for us.

“We will be looking to win those games and if we come out of those games with nine points, then it really sets us up for the season.”

On the opening day of the season Town were defeated 2-1 by Elburton Villa, another team who have been put in the “beatable” category for Westgarth’s side.

Reflecting on this match, the Ambers manager said it should give them even more incentive to pick up points in their next three ties.

“The game against Elburton was a massive missed opportunity for us to put a marker down against a side we know we can beat,” Westgarth said.

“With that in mind it makes the next three games bigger because we’ve already tripped up once against a team we should have done better against.

“Obviously nobody has a God given right to win any game in this league, but we cannot afford to drop points in these sorts of games if we are to develop as a team.”
