BUDAPEST is the next destination for Mark Lewarne as he prepares to represent Team GB at the World Triathlon Championships next month.

The Penryn College teacher will be taking part in the Hungarian National Championship race which features a 1,500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run around the Eastern European nation's captial, with the competition beginning on Friday.

In September, Lewarne will be jetting off to Chicago to take part in the World Championship and man from Redruth is looking to use this race to give himself a marker for then.

Lewarne, who will be joined by friend David Bartlett who is competing in the Ironman event being held at the same time, said he is feeling confident, but expects it to be a challenging race.

"I am in good shape physically so expecting to put in a strong performance," he said.

"I'm expecting a tough race in Budapest and it will be the second time I have raced there having been part of the GB team for the 2010 world championships around the same course, so I am familiar with the city.

"It's been extremely hot in Budapest this past week with temperatures around 38-40 degrees, so hydration will be critical both pre race and during and will be drawing on all the experience gained from racing the Dubai super series in 2013 where temperatures reached 40 degrees, to play into my strengths when dealing with the heat."
