FALMOUTH Golf Club PGA professional Nick Rogers enjoyed a terrific day on Saturday as 150 members from all sections turned out to support him, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The overall winner and winner of the gents section was ever popular Ian “Henry” Churcher, a stalwart of the club for many years and amazingly it was his first individual win since 2000.

His excellent haul of 43 Stableford points included birdies at the sixth and tenth holes and it was enough to beat Alan Goldsmith, who carded birdies at the sixth.11th and 16th holes by one point.

Chris Beer took third place with 41, edging out Lenny Lewis, John Trevithick and Larry Lynch on countback.

In his speech, Churcher said how impressed he was to see the club house buzzing with so many people, especially the juniors who are the future of the club.

The ladies event was won by Kath Kelly with a fine total of 36, the same as Tracey Millington with countback deciding the result.

Finishing third was Carol Allen with 33 on countback from Jane Wooldridge.

The junior section was well won by Archie Fox with this rising star carding a splendid haul of 42 putting him three ahead of Connor Davidson, with third going to James Dempsey with 37, just pipping Liam Ashley on countback.

The junior academy section played over 11 holes and was won by William Sercombe with an untouchable 24.

Runner-up was Jacob Horton with a good score of 20 and third was Ross McKnight with a fine haul of 19.

During the presentation, Rogers thanked all those who supported him and all the sponsors who helped him set up a first class prize table and especially his wife for putting up with living with a golf club professional.

Earlier in the week, the club hosted it's annual Pro-Am event sponsored by Ocean BMW.

Despite the heavy deluge of rain overnight, Simon Johnson and green-keeping staff performed a near miracle to get the course ready on time.

In the individual event, five professionals from Cornwall and Devon tied for first place with level par rounds of 71 being carded by Paul Hendriksen, Ivybridge, Chris Gill, Newquay, Scott Richards, Truro, James Ruth, China Fleet, and Richard Sadler, Killiow.

The Pro-Am event was won by the team led by James Ruth and his partners Graham Ruth, Bev Ruth and Charlie Phillips with a team score of 131, pipping West Cornwall's Matt Curnow's team, who featured Tom Rowe, Ross Lawrence and Ryan Reed.
