CHRIS Sloggett got his season off to an excellent start as he scored a comprehensive points victory during the Bude Show.
The Falmouth and Penryn Club boxer has been recording hard over the summer to improve his fitness ahead of his match with Carl Combenik of Yate ABC and it appeared to be paying off as from the start, Sloggett controlled the fight.
He used crisp jabs to frustrate Combenik while keeping out of the way of his opponent's strong right hook.
Sloggett kept the tempo out throughout the bout, landing some good combinations and avoiding Combenik's attempts to throw some big punches.
During the third round, Combenik was warned for holding on and this all but ensured Sloggett gained an unanimous points decision, much to the delight of his coaches and the travelling support.
On November 7, Falmouth and Penryn will host their first show of the season at the Dracena Centre and are seeking sponsors for some of the bouts scheduled for the night.
Anyone interested in helping out with this should contact the club via their Facebook page or by emailing falmouthpenrynboxingsecretary@yahoo.co.uk.
Training is open to newcomers wanting to give the sport a go with sessions on Tuesday for seniors between 7.30pm and 9pm while juniors box from 5-6pm on Wednesdays.
