Falmouth 1, Teign 1

HAVING won their previous two Premier Division 2b games, Falmouth extended their unbeaten run to three games on Saturday.

Throughout the first half Falmouth were by far the dominant team with the forward line up of Amy Tatlow, Rachael Tatlow, Vic Pryor and Tatum Godwin creating plenty of chances, many of which passed just wide of the Teign goal.

In midfield Amy Figgins, Viv Cobner, Billie Wood and Clare Hudson combined well to win the ball back from the Teign breaks and to set up the Falmouth attacks with some incisive passing.

Hudson came the closest to scoring in the first half when her shot was cleared off the line by a Teign defender.

Falmouth again started the second half as the dominant team. Their efforts were finally rewarded when an in

form Hudson delivered a perfectly paced strike from outside the Teign D which Godwin deflected into the Teign

goalmouth, a move which came straight off the training pitch.

Falmouth were to regret not taking their earlier chances as the defence of goalkeeper Hannah Bowman, Megan Cookson, Mandy Langdon (player of the match for two weeks in a row), Emmie Partington and Rachel Medd found themselves under increasing pressure from the Teign attacks in the latter stages of the game. Teign were awarded a penalty corner and scored the equaliser with

less than 10 minutes to go.

Falmouth achieved an impressive win on Saturday although they had to be very patient and continue working

hard at their game as the goals were hard to come by until midway through the second half of this Trelawney Division 1 match at Penryn College.

The hosts just had the edge in the opening 15 minutes but the match was then delayed due to an injury to a university player.

When play resumed the Plymouth ‘keeper made some good saves and several of the Falmouth shots were only just wide of the target.

Falmouth took the lead ten minutes before the break after a good through ball from Bella Osman to Kerry Thorne was passed to Emma Bragg who made no mistake in beating the keeper. Bella Osman, playing in her first senior game for Falmouth had an impressive debut and played a full part in the team performance.

In the second half Falmouth made an excellent break with Emma Bragg using her pace down the right wing to beat her defender and then skilfully round the approaching ‘keeper to score her second goal.

A flurry of goals then followed as Falmouth kept up the pressure and the opposition faded. Suzanne Bull, now playing centre forward scored a hat trick within five minutes.

Her first goal was a well-placed shot from an Emma Bragg cross in from the right wing while her second was a direct strike from a penalty corner. Her third goal came when she pounced on the ball, after the goalkeeper had saved the original shot, and sent it flying into the top corner.

Alice Bowman then made it six as she was quick to react as the ball rebounded off the keeper. Kerry Thorne was next to get her name on the score sheet, after injecting the ball at a penalty corner to Bragg she was well placed on the far post to sweep the returning ball into goal.

Plymouth University did not give up and were rewarded with a consolation goal before Kerry Thorne added to her tally with another goal from close range. Falmouth’s final goal was the result of a well worked free hit on the edge of the D; Hannah Whear passed the ball back to Bella Corbridge who passed the ball to the penalty spot for Alice Bowman to push

into the corner.
