Falmouth bounced back in devastating style from two defeats with an eleven try demolition of a spirited Bodmin side. This was a welcome return to form for the Eagles who moved back into fourth place in the Devon and Cornwall league.

On a day when many other matches were cancelled, Falmouth demonstrated their ability to play expansive rugby but this was built on the back of forward dominance. The Eagles were physically imposing, their pack controlled proceedings and this gave scrum half John Tyson, playing his last game for the club, plenty of time to set the backs free.

It took just five minutes for the Eagles to open their account, Falmouth took a scrum against the head and Tyson burrowed over the line, converted by Irons.

The Eagles then put in scintillating 20 minute performance featuring 3 quickfire scores. Man of the match Jon Baglow and Dan Kirk making hard yards for Tom Spiller to cross for the second try. Then, following a break from Justyn Irons a catch and drive from a 5 metre line out was steered across the whitewash by Olly Church.

Prop Ashley Searle, made a rare appearance on the scoresheet with a pick and drive from close range, to secure the bonus point, Irons converting to put the hosts 24 points ahead.

Thinking their work was done, Falmouth began to make errors, conceding penalties and Bodmin capitalised, in a cleverly worked move, wing Harland received an inside pass and broke through the Eagles defence, Josh Taylor converting.

Stung back into action Falmouth scored quickly, Matt Biggins crossing following Josh Symon’s counter attack of a sliced Bodmin clearance, Irons converting for a 31-7 half time lead.

The second period provided no respite for the visitors despite them having conditions in their favour, Number 8 Simon Bailey marshalled a pushover try, Irons converting, to start the scoring.

Then came the try of the match, Falmouth had a penalty on the half way line, Irons took a quick tap to flanker Tom Simmons who, running at full pace, floated a 15 metre pass straight into the hands of Alex Kindjarsky, who ran through 2 defenders to score, Irons converting.

Bodmin forced the Eagles back onto their own line but Falmouth showed their intent to shut out the visitors before skipper Irons went under the posts following a line break from Bailey, converting his own score.

Tom Edmonds, on as a replacement, scored a sparkling try, weaving through from within his own half before Tyson scored his second, sniping across from close to the line, Irons adding the extras. The tally was completed as Tom Spiller broke clear to start a move that went through ten pairs of hands with Kinjardsky finally touching down.

A great result and performance for the Eagles, there are concerns for Prop Dan Kirk who left the field with a serious leg injury, there is no 1st XV fixture next week but the 2nd XV are playing Redruth Albany at the Recreation Ground.
