NEWLYN'S Jack Nowell made his mark on England's RBS Six Nations opener when he scored one of two tries in their 15-9 victory in Scotland on Saturday.

With so much local rugby postponed in Cornwall, all eyes turned to Murrayfield and the 22 year-old former Redruth and Pirates wing did not disappoint.

Nowell, who won his 11th cap for his country, said: "You have to give credit to Scotland, they're a good side and very physical – and they came into this game on a massive high from the World Cup,

"It's a massive result for us. "There was nothing more important today than getting the win. Murrayfield is a very tough place to come and the conditions weren't great either, but we've only been together for two weeks so to come out and get the win was awesome."

Nowell and the England squad now travel to Rome for their second match against Italy on Sunday.
