A NEW, inclusive squash concept has been launched throughout the UK and people are being encouraged to sign up at Polkyth Leisure Centre, St Austell, to see what it’s all about.

Squash 101 has been designed by England Squash to get as many people as possible to enjoy the sport; allowing up to eight players on the squash court at any one time, it offers a fun and sociable way to get fit.

Ideal for beginners, as well as those who’ve played before, a professional Squash 101 leader will teach them new skills and techniques to help them reach a level where they can start playing more competitively.

There has been a resurgence of the sport over the last year, mainly due to the fact that people are learning it can burn up to 1,000 calories per session while offering a cardiovascular, full body work out.

Squash is also an easily accessible sport - England Squash states there are approximately 4,000 squash courts throughout the country - and as it grows in popularity it is seen as a more sociable and fun activity that allows friends to chat and catch up between points.

Keir Worth, CEO at England Squash said: “Squash 101 is designed to increase accessibility to squash and increase the numbers of people playing it. We hope the initiative will fill courts in leisure centres around the country.

“Squash 101 has been designed to get people together in a welcoming and comfortable environment and inspire them to get fitter, whatever their age or ability.”
