Wendron 5, Holsworthy 2

AFTER some indifferent recent results, Wendron boss Charlie Davis described this performance as "probably one of our best of season" in Division 1 West on Saturday.

There was a great energy and determination about the hosts, who were keen to atone for the disappointing cup exit at Illogan last week. Holsworthy suffered the backlash.

The hosts were on top from the start but created only half chances in the opening 20 minutes, before Michael O'Neill profited from some good play down the right to score the opener.

Seven minutes before the break Wendron doubled their lead when Phil Crawley scored his first senior goal for the club, converting a Ryan Tresidder corner.

Tresidder had another assist four minutes later when he delivered another corner for Chris Madeley to score from a tight angle at the back post.

The rout continued after the break when Jack Stocker added a fourth, at which point Davis introduced all three substitutes.

Ricky Cobbledick reduced the arrears for the Devon side but almost immediately the hosts added a fifth when O'Neill stole in at the near post to convert Max Bowden's cross.

A lofted pass found Cobbledick for his second goal of the game, but his side had been well beaten.
