CORNWALL FA has announced that from the start of next season matches postponed due to the weather (provided a referee has correctly inspected the pitch on the day of the game) will not now have to be re-arranged.

Local footballers often have to travel distances midweek, play 6.30pm kick offs at the end of the season or bank holidays etc to catch up these matches.

The FA have insisted that from Step 2 and above (National or Conference league) where full time groundsman are the norm, games will continue to be re-arranged.

But from Step 3 downwards the following will apply: “Where games are correctly postponed, abandoned or cancelled due to conditions which neither club has control over (excluding misconduct by players) and a qualified senior referee signs the appropriate forms, the relevant leagues will no longer re-schedule matches, but will instead award each club 0.5 points for the uncompleted or unplayed fixture.”

SWPL secretary Phil Hiscox said: "This is not much different to how some cricket leagues operate and as league fixture secretary I welcome this and think this is a cracking idea."
