FALMOUTH Rugby Club are having a reunion to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their all-conquering side from the 1970s on Saturday.

Organised by former player Steve Lightfoot, he has contacted as many of the original team as he can ahead of the gathering, which will take place before the current team's home match against local rivals Hayle in the Cornwall/Devon League.

The successful team of the 1976/77 season won the Cornwall Cup and also the Merit Table and they played Irish champions Ballymena, which included the legendary Willie John McBride, who captained the British Lions on their tour to South Africa in 1974.

Steve said: "I decided to get everybody together because we're all getting older. I'm 60 now and I was one of the junior players at the time."

The invitation is extended to any player who represented Falmouth in that decade, because they also had a very strong reserve side during that time.

More than 40 former players are already expected to attend and anyone interested in going along for a pasty and a pint at 1pm can contact Steve on 01326 319810.
