Godolphin 4, Falmouth Town 0

FALMOUTH’S second visit to Newquay in five days was one to forget, in contrast to their excellent

victory across town at last Tuesday night.

The hosts, who had been on a poor run after being in the top three for much of the season, got their

season back on track, scoring three second half goals as they coasted to victory.

They began brightly, not allowing Town a foothold in the game, and took the lead after 11 minutes

when Lee Paxton drilled home following a deflected free kick.

Four minutes later Phil Lowry shot just over after breaking into the penalty area, before Falmouth

produced their first attack when Andy Westgarth and Rob Wearne exchanged passes, the former

crossing for Glen Squires who headed straight at keeper Sam Semmens.

Ed Timmons then overlapped down the left and crossed for Wearne, who shot straight at the

keeper.

The second half was barely two minutes old when Godolphin doubled their lead.

Kyle Brown fed Luke Rigby, who looked in an offside position and with Town’s defence flat-footed,

he centred for the unmarked Alex Coleman to fire home.

A Wearne header looped over the bar from a Timmons free kick as Town sought to register on the

scoresheet, but it was the home side who notched up again after 63 minutes.

The ever-reliable Joe Cooper was for once caught in possession and the ball was teed up for Brown,

who put the hosts firmly in charge.

To sum up Town’s afternoon, James Ward’s header from a Timmons corner thumped against a post

and rebounded straight into the arms of the grateful Semmens.

Tom Whipp’s one-two with Timmons created a chance for the centre half, but his shot went just

wide of the far post and worse was to follow when Ward was stretchered off after landing

awkwardly when jumping for a header.

Falmouth’s misery was complete with 13 minutes to go when Brown’s cross was headed home by

Russell Milsom after several fortuitous breaks of the ball for the hosts.

Town do not have an evening fixture this week, but return to league action when they travel to

Exmouth on Saturday.

A HAT-TRICK from player-manager Andrew Westgarth gave Town a comfortable victory at Mount

Wise last Tuesday.

His opener came after five minutes when he shot home from 15 yards after a through ball from Mike

Vanes.

He produced a splendid finish six minutes before the break after a pass down the left hand channel

from Ed Timmons and with ten minutes to go his shot beat the onrushing keeper and despite the

efforts of covering defender, the ball crept over the line.
