Camborne 62, Penryn 8

PENRYN'S brave effort to create one of rugby's great upsets went up in smoke in the second half of this Cornwall Cup final, as Camborne demonstrated why they are heading into the national leagues next season.

Borough had to dust themselves down after being relegated from Western Counties last week and battled bravely against the all-conquering Cherry & Whites at St Austell on Bank Holiday Monday.

Camborne ran in four late tries to put a flattering tilt on the scoreline, before which Penryn had managed to contain their confidence-soaked opponents.

The South West 1 champions kicked an early penalty, followed by an unconverted try, before Ben Trevaskis touched down for Penryn following a well-worked line-out move.

They pulled level at 8-8 when Rob Banks converted a penalty, before Camborne hit back with two more tries, one of which was converted to give them a 20-8 interval lead.

Penryn continued to compete early in the second period before Camborne took control, with former Borough wing Alex Ducker running in three tries against his former club.
