The Cornish Pirates have confirmed that tight-head prop Adam Jamieson has been forced to retire from the game through injury.
Joining the Pirates in May 2014, Adam made 26 appearances for the club as a young forward with considerable potential. Swindon-born, he had represented England under 19s, England Students, and had also been a member of the England
under 20s squad.
Injury restricted Adam to making just seven appearances for the Pirates in his first season with the club, whilst he added 19 more in 2015/16.
But for his problems with a neck injury, Adam’s immediate future would have been with Cornish Pirates who were looking forward to him continuing his rugby development.
To be told to stop playing rugby was devastating news for Adam. He commented: “It’s a huge shock and a tough pill to swallow, as I never thought I would be in this position at just turning 22.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in Cornwall and would like to thank Ian, Paves and Gav, and also Fliss and the medical team, for their support.”
Adam, who was educated at The Corsham School, Filton College, and Bath University, added: “There have been positives that I’ll take from my rugby experiences, including making real friends for life, and my best wishes are expressed to the Pirates for the future. Hopefully one day I will be able to watch them play at the Stadium for Cornwall.”
Director of Rugby Ian Davies, who admired and recognised Adam as a player of real potential, was saddened to hear Adam’s news. Ian said: “We are devastated that Adam has been forced to retire so young. Adam was a player who we were looking to re-contract for next season as his willingness to learn, his strong work ethic and general positive attitude on and off the field are the traits that we value strongly when choosing a squad.
“We are now investigating a couple of options for Adam for life after rugby and, as they say, ‘Once A Pirate, Always A Pirate’.”
